Preparation to establish the Confluence Periurban Park – Berounka River floodplain.

The river floodplain on the confluence of the Berounka River and Vltava River on the southern edge of Prague covers an area of over 1300 hectares, which is almost 300 x Wenceslas Square side-by-side. The area is divided between 5 Municipal Districts and the town of Černošice. A variety of interests clash here. Partial, uncoordinated interventions are destroying the landscape, which is clearly a shame. Prague therefore set out a clear task – to prepare a proposal for a plan of action to establish a CONFLUENCE PERIURBAN PARK. The Prague Institute of Planning and Development will announce an international landscape design competition for the landscape of the confluence of the Berounka and Vltava Rivers.

Confluence Periurban Park – International Design Competition

The landscape and urban design competition will focus on the riverine landscape of the Berounka and Vltava Rivers in Prague, comprising an area of 1,000 hectares, or 3.9 square miles. The area of interest stretches across five Prague municipalities and the Central Bohemian Region town of Černošice, and has various ownership structures and land uses. TThe aim of the international design competition is to find a team to design the future concept for this periurban landscape and ensure its sustainable development in the form of a periurban park.

Norway Grants

IPR Prague has received funding from the Norwegian Funds grant call "Bergen" for the project "Periurban park - a Tool for Reducing the Impacts of Climate Change". This initiative will contribute to the planning of the Confluence Periurban Park, which will be the first of its kind in the Czech Republic. More information here.

What should happen?

In 2017, IPR procured a Master Plan for the Permeability of the Area, which specifies how the area as a whole should be connected both within and to its surroundings.
A Master Plan for the Development of Ecosystem Services was created, which deals with factors such as protection against drought and flooding.
There are also sub-projects – Renovation of the Berounka Thalweg, Access Point in Dolní Černošice, Radotín Sports and Recreation Complex.
A study into the revitalization of the landscape and a strategic/spatial document of wider relationships will be compiled based on procurement procedure in cooperation with local stakeholders.
A contract of long-term cooperation will be concluded with the selected landscape architect or urbanist on the creation of a master plan for the landscape and the establishment of Confluence Periurban Park. This will be the guide for the onward development of the whole area.
