Public engagement and the involvement of local stakeholders are fundamental to effective urban planning. The Participation Office of Prague’s Institute of Planning and Development (IPR Prague), through its project “Your City, Your Space,” seeks to raise awareness of participatory planning and the tools it offers. Participation not only brings valuable insights from local communities – it also fosters trust in public institutions and helps prevent conflicts in urban environment. Strengthening its role in planning processes is therefore essential.

Your City, Your Space is a two-year participatory project traveling through seven locations across Prague. Its goal is to engage local residents in an open dialogue about the city and its future. The project serves both as a platform for inspiring civic involvement and as a way to gather valuable insights from citizens of all generations.

In each location, the project features a hands-on workshop with pupils from local primary schools, followed by a public outdoor event centered around a traveling participatory game. During the workshop, students explore how cities function and learn how they can actively contribute to shaping their surroundings. Their ideas and creative work are then showcased at the public event, inviting the wider community to join the conversation. The project is funded by the Erasmus+ programme and implemented by the IPR Prague Participation Office in collaboration with local schools and municipal districts.

We will announce the next stops of the traveling participatory game at the beginning of 2026.

Workshop with Elementary School Students

In each location, older students from local elementary schools will take part in a workshop offering them a hands-on introduction to the world of urban planning. Through participatory games and team challenges, they will explore the principles of civic engagement and discover how they can play an active role in shaping their local environment. Together, we will visit interesting spots in their neighborhood and try out how to promote an urban project. Their ideas and creative work will be showcased at the public event.

Outdoor Event for the Public

In each neighborhood, a central gathering space will host a discussion hub where experts from the IPR Prague Participation Office will connect with the public. The event will include interactive stations with participatory games – such as Our City, a wheel-of-fortune-style game where you can step into the shoes of various city users and reflect on what it is like to navigate the city as, for example, an art student, a picnic enthusiast, or a senior who enjoys crossword-solving. In My View, you will be invited to draw your own vision of an ideal public space in your neighborhood. Join us to play, share your ideas, and learn more about how Prague is planned - we look forward to seeing you there!

Second Stop – Prague-Kunratice

In autumn 2025, the traveling participatory game made its stop in Kunratice. Over the course of the day, the square in front of the town hall came alive with parents and children, active community members, and an inquisitive group of first graders from the local school. The event was preceded by a workshop with 8th- and 9th-grade students from Kunratice Elementary School, where we explored what makes a city, how young people can shape public spaces, and why it’s so important for their voices to be heard.
