Norway Grants

This 1,300-hectare floodplain of the riparian corridor around the confluence of the Berounka and Vltava Rivers in Prague currently suffers from administrative and property fragmentation. There is a high risk that ongoing insensitive and uncoordinated interventions will lead to irreversible damage to the landscape and the environment.

As part of the efforts to establish and institutionalize the park, it is necessary to agree on its vision, strategic framework, and concrete implementation measures. With funding from the Norway Grant, Prague will develop a zoning study and conceptual documents to support the redevelopment of the floodplains, as well as the development and management of the park, through the creation of a Masterplan.  The park promises to be a nature-based solution supporting natural protection and incorporating adaptation measures such as flood protection and control, floodplain redevelopment, management of surface water discharge, and the reduction of solar radiation.

Considering that there is limited experience with peri-urban parks in the Czech Republic, IPR Prague has partnered with AHO University in Oslo and the EUROPARC Federation for the transfer of best practices. The project closely aligns with Prague’s Climate Change Adaptation Strategy, which prioritizes the sensitive development of natural landscape through the establishment and management of peri-urban parks.

The project began in 2021 and will run through 2024.
