The comprehensive travel experience begins on the way to the airport.

The comprehensive travel experience begins on the way to the airport. The contracting authority ČESKÝ AEROHOLDING therefore announced, in cooperation with us, an urban-transport competition for an ideological solution for the public space in front of Terminals 1 and 2 at Vaclav Havel Airport Prague. The objective was to improve the quality of the public space in front of the terminal buildings. The main criteria were to reorganise traffic flows and make them clearer in connection with the planned railway station, a new parking system, the creation of user-friendly public spaces, the cultivation of greenery, and advertising space. The author of the winning design is the rala studio headed by architect Radek Lampa. He suggests reducing surface traffic and primarily focusing on pedestrians.

The design was a significant shift compared to the first round. The jury positively evaluated the balanced solution of the main topics required by the contracting authority, i.e. the solutions for transport and the public space in front of the terminals, a strong vision, and use of the potential of the territory. The fact that the focus is on people or pedestrians, for whom the main communication level is reserved, is also very positive. The space in front of the terminals will become a cultivated extension of the airport halls with clear architectural qualities. The complexity of the design phasing is something of a risk.
