The landscape and urban design competition will focus on the riverine landscape of the Berounka and Vltava Rivers in Prague, comprising an area of 1,000 hectares, or 3.9 square miles. The area of interest stretches across five Prague municipalities and the Central Bohemian Region town of Černošice, and has various ownership structures and land uses. This riparian landscape in the city's hinterlands holds much potential, but lacks a clear landscape plan and rules for future development. The aim of the international design competition is to find a team to design the future concept for this periurban landscape and ensure its sustainable development in the form of a periurban park.
The competition is organized within the “Periurban Park as a Tool for Climate Change Adaptation” project, financed by the State Environmental Fund of the Czech Republic. The winning team will be charged with completing a guideplan proposal for this landscape, as well as several detailed landscape studies.

The landscape of the confluence of the Berounka and Vltava Rivers is comprised largely of flood plains, eliminating the possibility of traditional urban development, but with huge potential for periurban recreational activities, sustainable agriculture, and the conservation of a natural, riparian landscape.
The area contains romantic enclaves along the meandering river, but also neglected brownfields, large fields with conventional agriculture, a golf course, logistics facilities, wetlands, and other water elements. The landscape suffers from excessive fragmentation and the absence of a long-term development concept. There is a risk that insensitive interventions will lead to the irreversible devastation of the last remnants of riparian landscape in Prague. The competition will help to integrate this neglected space back into the life of the metropolis.
