The public transport infrastructure in Prague is its key asset.

I WANT TO GO BACK
Subway Lenght

A good prerequisite for sustainable mobility in Prague is the relatively long length of metro lines per 1 million inhabitants, which is more comparable to developed Western European cities than to comparable capital cities of post-communist countries such as Warsaw and Budapest.

Cars

On the other hand, the level of motorization and number of cars per 1,000 inhabitants in Prague hinder sustainable mobility efforts. It is worth noting that this metric has shown an upward trend in major post-communist cities, including Prague, Warsaw, and Budapest, between 2011 and 2022. Five out of the seven remaining cities being monitored have reported a decrease in this metric.

Electric Cars and Hybrids

In terms of replacing petrol and diesel cars with cleaner fuels, Prague ranked the lowest among all cities in 2019-2021, with the lowest share of electric and hybrid cars. While other forms of fuel, such as hydrogen, may eventually become more prevalent, it is important to consider the current reluctance towards new fuels in the local environment.
